A new Onion Games title has been announced on the developer’s official website, and it will be noteworthy for two reasons. The first is that it will be the first sandbox RPG project. But more importantly, Yoshiro Kimura, the studio’s founder, director, and game designer, said, “I think this will probably be my final RPG.”
There’s only a concept art image at the head of the announcement, to give people an idea of what to possibly expect. Kimura also mentioned how “this world is full of irrational events.” He also noted, “Can children ever hope to overcome this irrationality which adults have left unresolved? In bringing back the romantic, fairytale nature of RPGs, I want to discover my own answer to this question.” He confirmed too at the end of the statement about the new game that, “So, this will be my last RPG. I’m going to pour my all into it and if it ends with this, then so be it.”
Since being founded in 2012, Onion Games has released titles like Black Bird, Dandy Dungeon: Legend of Brave Yamada, and Million Onion Hotel. Most recently, it localized and released the PlayStation anti-RPG Moon and released it worldwide. Some of Kimura’s past projects include Chulip, Little King’s Story, Rule of Rose, Romancing SaGa 2, and Romancing SaGa 3.
