One-Third Of Square Enix’s Console Game Revenue Comes From Download Sales

Recommended Videos

Buried within Square Enix’s earnings report was one very significant point of interest—that one-third of Square’s HD games revenue is generated through digital downloads.

Note that, in Square Enix’s case, “HD games” usually includes retail games they create for portables as well, so what they’re likely saying here is that, when it comes to traditional videogames overall, one-third of their revenue comes from download sales.

That’s a significant chunk of revenue, and it should be interesting to see how that factors into Square’s plans moving forward.
