Namco Bandai released One Piece: Romance Dawn for the 3DS this week in Japan. The 3DS port contains several additions, including the use of the touch screen as a dungeon map and various difficulty tweaks.
Unlike the Unlimited World and Pirate Warriors games, Romance Dawn is an RPG in which you can equip and create items, and the story covers almost 600 chapters from the original manga, from the very beginning to Marineford, the last major arc before the two-year time leap.
Apart from the main story, there are side quest dungeons that you can unlock by obtaining treasure maps. These dungeons can be randomly generated each time you enter them.
At the end of each dungeon, you will encounter a past boss enemy, but they will be more powerful than before. As you can see in these screenshots, you’ll get to fight prominent enemies from the original series, as well as allies like Jinbe and Boa Hancock. You can also fight Pandaman, the cameo character who appears repeatedly in the manga and anime.
One Piece: Romance Dawn will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on August 8 in Japan. A European release is slated for this November.
