In an interview with Xbox Vice President Sarah Bond, Xbox Wire Japan seems to have confirmed that Octopath Traveler 2 will be coming to Xbox Game Pass. The game was previously announced as coming to Xbox consoles at TGS 2023.
Xbox Wire Japan is an official news blog run by Microsoft, and the interview focused on the company’s relationship to the historically Sony and Nintendo-dominated Japanese and Asian markets. Recently, Microsoft has been making attempts to win over this audience by bringing more games like Final Fantasy XIV to its consoles.
It is part of a question on this strategy that Bond mentioned both Octopath Traveler 2 and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name as coming to the Game Pass service. Like a Dragon Gaiden was announced as coming to Game Pass during Microsoft’s presentation at TGS, along with Like a Dragon: Ishin!, however there was no similar reveal for Octopath Traveler 2.
While far from an official announcement, a Game Pass outing for Octopath Traveler 2 has been suspected for some time and Xbox Wire is an official Microsoft blog. The previous game, Octopath Traveler, was available on Game Pass for a period. Square Enix and Microsoft removed it from the service in February 2023.
Octopath Traveler 2 is readily available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5 and PC via Steam. Windows Store, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X versions are arriving sometime in 2024.
