NIS had been teasing a new game in Japan throughout June 2020, starting with footage of a hamster in its wheel and moving onto a site with an image of a rat being experimented on. Now, the secret has been shared. Mad Rat Dead will be coming to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 worldwide, with it showing up in Japan on October 29, 2020 and in North America and Europe on October 30, 2020. (Oceania will get it on November 6, 2020.)
Mad Rat Dead stars Mad Rat, who is understandably upset about being experimented on for his life and killed as a result of those tests. However, he has a chance to get back at the doctor who killed him and experimented on other rats. A god has given him another chance at life. But, there’s a catch. Mad Rat has only been revived for one day and this is a Crypt of the Necrodancer sort of game where you must move in time with the beat to keep successfully going. (Though, a rewind function is present if someone needs an assist.)
Here’s a trailer showing how Mad Rat Dead will work.
A Mad Rat Dead Limited Edition has also been announced. It gives people a physical copy of either version of the game, a Dead Beats cassette, a digital copy of the soundtrack, and a digital art book.
Mad Rat Dead will come to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in Japan on October 29, 2020, in North America and Europe on October 30, 2020, and in Oceania on November 6, 2020.
