Nintendo’s latest update to their Miiverse social network makes the service very similar to Twitter. The new update went live today, and Nintendo posted a list of the changes via their Miiverse community.
Here’s what the difference is: prior to today, you could only post Miiverse messages in pre-existing communities on Miiverse. Think of each community as a forum thread of sorts. Your message would then show up in the community you posted on and anyone else checking that community would be able to view and reply to your post.
Now, however, you also have the option of posting a message from your “Activity Feed,” which is where the Twitter comparison comes in.
What this means is that you no longer have to post a message in any specific community. You can go to the Activity Feed section of your Miiverse account, post a message, and the only people that will be able to view it are friends and those that follow you, or are checking your profile. In short, think of your Activity Feed as your timeline.
Note that you can, of course, still post messages to specific communities. As per usual, these messages will be viewable by anyone else checking that community.
