Nintendo And Universal Team Up For Theme Park Attractions Based On Nintendo Properties

Nintendo and Universal Parks & Resorts have announced a partnership by which the latter will create theme park attractions based on Nintendo properties.

Details are scant at the moment, but a statement sent out by Nintendo says: “The immersive experiences will include major attractions at Universal’s theme parks and will feature Nintendo’s most famous characters and games. More details will be announced in the future, as the Nintendo and Universal creative teams work to create specific concepts.”

This agreement appears to be part of an ongoing effort on Nintendo’s part to use their intellectual property outside of the realm of just videogames.

Last year, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated: “We will actively expand our character licensing business, including proactively finding appropriate partners. In fact, we have been actively selling character merchandise for about a year in the U.S. Also, we will be flexible about forming licensing relationships in areas we did not license in the past, such as digital fields, provided we are not in direct competition and we can form win-win relationships.”
