Nintendo say the Wii U will have three pillars—video games, their online Miiverse service, and something called Nintendo TVii, which they revealed today.
Nintendo TVii is an application that will allow you to to access services like Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Instant Video, and your DVR all in one place on your Wii U GamePad, via a connected interface. It will allow you to bookmark favourite shows, search for shows across all the different video services, see what friends on your contact list are watching, and make recommendations.
See the Mii in the upper-left corner? That’s a personalized profile with your interests. Each user can have his or her own personalized profile on Nintendo TVii.
You can also share comments about the things you’re watching, and based on your profile settings, your comments can be shared across Twitter, Facebook and Nintendo’s own Miiverse service.
Nintendo TVii will be included with every Wii U.
