Nintendo released its third-quarter financial results with an updated look at hardware sales for Switch and more. The console has reached a total of over 52.48 million units worldwide as of December 31, 2019.
Check out the updated total unit sales for the Nintendo Switch, 3DS, and Wii U:
Nintendo Switch
- Hardware: 52.48 million units (+10.81 million from previous quarter)
- Software: 246.01 million units (+64.64)
Nintendo 3DS
- Hardware: 75.45 million units (+0.26)
- Software: 378.12 million units (+4.1)
Wii U
- Hardware: 13.56 million units (-)
- Software: 102.85 million units (+0.16)
Last time I mentioned that Nintendo would need 11.07 million Switch consoles sales in the third and fourth quarters in order to meet the previously set forecast of 18 million in the fiscal year ending March 2020. With 10.81 million units sold in the third quarter alone, they’re practically already there with just 260,000 units left to go.
As previously reported, Pokemon Sword & Pokemon Shield have already reached 16 million, so it’s pretty obvious that it got a big push from the giant franchise. The Switch has also been getting strong third-party support as we’ve seen from PlatinumGames’ Astral Chain and Marvel/Team Ninja’s Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order.
