Each of the Yo-Kai Watch numbered installments are connected, with the main characters Nate and Katie acting as the players’ avatars in Yo-Kai Watch and Yo-Kai Watch 2 as they meet Whisper and Jibanyan and find themselves exposed to Yo-Kai people don’t normally see. To help people catch up and prepare for the third installment, Nintendo has prepared a special Yo-Kai Watch 3 video that looks over what has happened. Appropriately enough, it is called “The Story So Far.”

The video begins with Whisper explaining what Yo-Kai are and the impact they have on the world, which was taken from the original adventure. We then get to see some of the enemies Nate or Kate met, including the opportunity to meet a grandfather who also had Yo-Kai adventures in Yo-Kai Watch 2. From there, the video heads into the opening moments of Yo-Kai Watch 3, which begins with a move from Springdale to St. Peanutsburg. This means all new ‘Merican Yo-kai in the new town.

As an aside, the Nintendo video only focuses on Nate’s journey. It doesn’t yet introduce Hailey Anne. She’s a new protagonist introduced in Yo-Kai Watch 3 who works alongside the Yo-Kai Usapyon. Their adventures are set in Springdale, where the duo solves mysteries with supernatural sides to them.

Yo-Kai Watch 3 is immediately available on the Nintendo 3DS in Europe and Japan, and it will make its North American debut on February 8, 2019.
