Kimishima further commented on why the system became a hit: “It was a bigger hit that we were hoping. The unique ability to play it as a home console, but also bring it out with you, was a hit feature.” On the Switch shortages, he said that Nintendo is increasing production in order to increase shelf stock.

This comes after Nintendo increased their sales forecast for the system to 16.7 million units in October. Kimishima emphasized that they want to ship more than that in the second year, by releasing an abundance of digital content to lengthen playtime of software.

On comparing the Nintendo Wii with the Switch, Kimishima confidently stated that depending on the country, the Switch is selling at pace that could overtake the Wii.
