Nintendo 3DS Tops Hardware Sales In U.S. In May [Update]

The Nintendo 3DS was the best-selling videogame platform in the U.S. during the month of May, Nintendo of America shared this afternoon.

Nintendo did not provide 3DS sales figures for the month of May, however. Instead, they pointed to the success of 3DS software (again, without providing sales figures) for the month.

Update: Microsoft have announced that Xbox 360 sold 114,000 units during May, so Nintendo 3DS sales were higher than that figure.

“The launch of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D on May 23 and another strong month for Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon helped Nintendo 3DS software sales in stores increase by more than 60 percent over the same time last year,” Nintendo’s statement reads.

“Nintendo 3DS also had two of the top three best-selling software SKUs for the month, with Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D at No. 2 and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon at No. 3.”
