According to official announcements, Nijisanji canceled Fantasia due to concerns over rising cases. Several members of the Day 2 cast tested positive for the virus. Nijisanji revealed that Kenmochi Toya, Kanae, Kagami Hayato, and Yashiro Kizuku have COVID-19 on January 20, 2022. Fuwa Minato and Kaida Haru also announced their positive tests on January 19, 2022.

Despite this, the company originally intended for the first day to still take place. However, for the safety of the staff and visitors, Nijisanji decided that it would cancel both days. It will announce plans for reimbursements and reschedules on its social media. A total of 16 VTubers were to perform during Fantasia. If Nijisanji decides to reschedule Fantasia, it is unknown if those who tested positive would perform.

Fantasia is not the first event canceled due to COVID-19. Earlier in January 2022, E3 2022 announced that its in-person event will not happen due to the pandemic. It has not yet revealed the dates for the online portion.
