Now that Pokémon GO has released and is going strong in eight countries, Niantic CEO John Hanke recently revealed to Reuters that he would like to have the game available in 200 regions “relatively soon.”
Japan is scheduled to get the app in the near future, with South Korea following after. However, Hanke notes the challenges with releasing in South Korea, which maintains restrictions on Google’s mapping functions as a result of security issues with North Korea.
Hanke went on to express the goal of eventually launching Pokémon GO in China, though he admitted that doing so would pose its own set of obstacles given the country’s numerous regulations.
Pokémon GO is available for iOS and Android devices in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
