By Yes, Ni no Kuni: Queen of the White Ash looks gorgeous, but Studio Ghibli’s game is more than a pretty picture. It’s heartfelt story follows Oliver, a 13 year old boy, whose mother died in an accident.
Struck with grief, Oliver breaks down and cries. His tears fall on a doll his mother gave him, which suddenly comes to life. Shizuku reveals he is a fairy and a resident of another world called Ni no Kuni where it may be possible to revive his mother. Before Oliver can do that, he must defeat Jabo, a sorcerer who threatens the other world.

Maru is a young girl Oliver meets by chance. She loves to sing and is quite healthy in Ni no Kuni, which is a world parallel to ours. In reality, Maru is Sherry, a frail and sickly girl.
Nyandahl the 14th is the King of Goronul, but in a neighbor’s cat called Frank in reality.
Kaura is the queen of Babanasia who is known for her insatiable appetite. She’s Layla in the real world and delivers milk to Oliver’s house.
Ni no Kuni: Queen of the Holy White Ash comes out November 17 in Japan.
