NGP Launch May Be Delayed Due To Japan Earthquakes

Bloomberg are reporting that the launch of Sony’s Next Generation Portable (NGP), which was originally supposed to launch by the end of 2011, might be affected due to the recent earthquakes in Japan, which have caused disruptions in production of the devices.

According to Jack Tretton, president of Sony Computer Entertainment America, the system might now only make it out in a single region by the end of the year. Tretton didn’t specify which region this would be, however.

“It may be the straw that says ‘maybe we get to just one market by the end of the year,’” Tretton said to Bloomberg in a recent interview. However, he added that, on the upside, a delayed launch could give developers “in certain regions” more time to complete their software.
