New Netflix Sonic Prime Teaser Hints at Multiverse Adventures

Sonic Prime Teaser

Netflix showed off a new teaser for Sonic Prime during a livestream event. The trailer reveals more about the premise of the new animated series, and teases new looks for the main cast. Some familiar faces from elsewhere in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise also appear. The teaser also clarified the show’s premiere date of December 15, 2022.

The Sonic Prime video featured Sonic and his pals Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Rouge the Bat. They’re going up against Dr. Eggman. Eggman activates something called the Paradox Prism, sending Sonic through a mysterious portal. He arrives in what appears to be an altogether different universe (or a different time period). Familiar natural areas like the Green Hill Zone developed into dystopian cityscapes there. Sonic’s friends, or perhaps their multiverse alter-egos, appear rather worse for the wear. Knuckles and Rouge bear various scars and wear paramilitary gear. Tails’ tails are now robotic, and Amy has gone full-on cyborg. Sonic will need to find a way to set the universe right and confront Eggman (and a crowd of what are likely Eggman doppelgangers) to do it. Sonic himself gets some new gear, donning gloves and shoes with glowing LED bits.

Other previously teased characters, like Shadow the Hedgehog and Big the Cat, didn’t appear in the trailer. Their regular versions did appear, however, in a series of character posters shared by IGN on its official Twitter account.

Sonic Prime debuts on December 15, 2022 via Netflix. The next game in the series, Sonic Frontiers, arrives on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch on November 8, 2022.
