Konami’s sequel to Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times, their take on an Animal Crossing communication game, lets players inherit their data from its predecessor. The poor thing barely ever gets mentioned in any news posts, but since it’s releasing this November 11th, Konami Japan sent out another media reminder outlining the game’s features.
Wait, wait, wait. Just what is this thing?
Magician’s Quest: The Merchant’s Store of Sorcery is a Nintendo DS game where you’re put in the shoes of an apprentice wizard. You enroll in a school of wizardry and your goal is to grow into a masterful wizard through studying, mastering spells, and solving mysterious problems for other folks. Time in the game passes in accordance with the real world.
At some point, you can start opening your own stores. Pastry shops, accessory shops, flower shops, clothing stores, furniture, you name it. Products sold in your shops are produced through minigames that involve combining different items. An alchemy minigame, perhaps?
Konami are boasting over 10,000 different items that you can produce.
Your shops grow successful the more you take good care of them and know how to treat customers. You can advertise your products around town to attract more customers to your stores, too. In addition to this, you’ll be able to customize both the interior and exteriors of your shops.
Specifically, a player can produce their own shops such as pastry shops, accessory shops, and flower shops. Products can be made through a mini-game involving combinations of more than 10,000 different items. Players enliven their shops by attending to customers, and by advertising to popularize their products in their towns. In addition to customization of shop interiors and exteriors, the game also allows users to enjoy a vastly expanded lineup of new characters and items, including clothing and furniture.
One of the series’ most unique features is The Merchant’s Store of Sorcery lets players import their save data from Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times. But, Konami didn’t exactly design Mysterious Times with an export feature. How does this work? First, you need two DSes, one running each game. Then by selecting menu options on Mysterious Times usually used to send a character off to another school you can transfer data to The Merchant’s Store of Sorcery. Character items, treasures, and your magic rank move over to the sequel.
