Multimedia franchise Aria is turning fifteen this year, marking a decade and a half of anime, manga, and games inspired by the Kozue Amano slice-of-life series about gondoliers working in Neo-Venezia on Aqua, a terraformed Mars, in the future. In recognition of this milestone, a new ARIA movie will debut in Winter 2020. This was revealed by Aria‘s manga publisher, Mag Garden on the series page.

While the Aria manga first began running in 2001, the anime began on October 5, 2005 with the first series, Aria the Animation. Set in 24th century on Aqua, the first season follows Akari Mizunashi, a pink-haired girl from Manhome/Earth who has come to the city aiming to be an Undine, or a gondolier, and guide people through the city’s sprawling canals. The anime follows Akari through her daily life, showing the mundane and once-in-a-lifetime events that happen to her along the way as she works at Aria company with her mentor, Alicia. Aria spans two manga series, a well-known three anime series, multiple art books, spin-off media, and even two PlayStation 2 visual novels. In 2017, Nozomi Entertainment launched and ran a successful Kickstarter that brought the entire anime to North America on Blu-Ray with an English dub, a first for fans outside of Japan.
In addition to the Aria movie, a new voice actress for Athena Glory was announced via Twitter. As Tomoko Kawakami passed away in 2011, Athena will be voiced by Rina Satou, who is well-known as the voice of Makoto Niijima in Persona 5, Misaka Mikoto from A Certain Scientific Railgun, Etsy in Atelier Meruru, and Sailor Mars in Sailor Moon Crystal.
The Aria movie will debut in Winter 2020 in Japan.
