You’ll probably know Never Alone as the puzzle platformer that was made with Iñupiat people and has you helping Nuna and an arctic fox to stop an eternal blizzard. Well, if you haven’t played it the maybe you’ll have the chance too soon as it’s heading to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita now.
For owners of the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 version of Never Alone, there’s news for you too. The game is getting “Foxtales” DLC that adds another three levels on July 28th.
It’s set during the Arctic Spring and is based on “The Two Coastal Brothers,” which is one of the Arctic Native’s stories the development team learned about, but never had the chance to do anything with before. “One brother is an excellent hunter and fighter. The other is a strong swimmer,” explains the team. “To defeat the main antagonist, they must work together, each of their unique talents supporting the other and ultimately proving crucial to their success.”
As it’s a tale about interdependence, it’s easily fitted on to the mechanics of Never Alone, and it allows for new ideas and puzzles to be implemented. As such, in the “Foxtales” DLC, you’ll be spending quite a lot of time out of the snow and around cold waters.
To overcome these new challenges you’ll be having Nuna row and steer an umiaq (a sealskin canoe) while the fox is able to interact with spirits to change the flow of underwater currents. And, as it’s set in the spring, there will be new sights to see – “like an arctic prairie with the first blooms of spring peaking through the snowpack, the rapids and waterfalls of a river fed by melting snow or the subterranean lair of an unexpected new villain.”
