xNEO TWEWY Producer Says No ‘Current Plans’ for New Game

In a NEO The World Ends With You interview, Producer Tomohiko Hirano and Series Director Tatsuya Kando talked about the future for the series. Namely, what they might hope to do with it in the future. While each offered thoughts, the possibility of another new TWEWY game didn’t end up confirmed. Instead, Hirano said, “To be candid, we don’t have any current plans for the next installment.” Kando weighed in as well and noted, “I feel like I’ve done what I can for the time being.” This comes after Square Enix reported the sequel’s sales “underperformed.” [Thanks, PC Invasion!]

While there is nothing in the works yet, Hirano did mention wanting to explore more of Shibuya if a new TWEWY game happened. Here’s his full statement to PC Invasion.

To be candid, we don’t have any current plans for the next installment. However, there are still many areas in the city of Shibuya that we haven’t been able to recreate in either title, so a part of me wants to realize that in some shape or form. Please continue to share your passion and love for the game — perhaps then our company will have us make a sequel.

Kando followed up with a statement mentioning how “fan feedback” would be considered.

I feel like I’ve done what I can for the time being — NEO turned out to be a game that I packed with fourteen years’ worth of thought and emotion, so I feel like I’ve given it my all. I’ll continue to take a look at fan feedback to see how they perceived the game, and from there see what the best path forward might be.
