N64-Inspired 3D Platformer Poi Shows Off Its Sky Islands In New Trailer

PolyKid has released a new trailer for its brightly colored 3D platformer Poi. Despite facing a Kickstarter failure, the studio should still hopefully be bringing the game to PC and Wii U, but the quality and release date will be up in the air.

As you can tell at a glance, Poi is inspired by classic 3D platformers including Super Mario Sunshine, Banjo-Kazooie and Super Mario 64. You can play as a boy or a girl explorer as they jump, flip, bounce, balance, climb, and swim across the game’s large worlds using an airship to travel between sky islands to find and collect medallions.

Already developed are three worlds that are playable on PC and Wii U. The Kickstarter was launched in order to raise funds to improve the three existing worlds, to add three more worlds, and generally improve animations, sound effects, music, 3D models, and textures.

The new trailer shows the current state of the game, focusing on the variety across the three current worlds, the characters you’ll meet, as well as the tools you can use. For updates on the game’s status going forward keep an eye on the game’s website.
