"April 2011 represents the first month that new physical retail sales of content showed growth in both units and dollars since November of last year," writes the NPD Group’s Anita Frazier in her analysis of U.S. software sales for the month of April.
Frazier adds that five games sold more than 250,000 units in April 2011, as opposed to just two games last April.
The highest-selling game for the month was Mortal Kombat, which Frazier reports sold "just under 900k units" during its first month on the market. For reference, Street Fighter IV sold 849,000 units in its first month, when it debuted in February 2009.
