Daisuke Ichihara, best known as the director of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, left Capcom and joined ILCA. The announcement was made during a special interview with ILCA that was published by CGWorld. [Thanks, Game’s Talk!]
ILCA, which is short for I Love Computer Art, is a company that specializes in 3D CG graphics and movies. It also recently worked with Square Enix and Bandai Namco to produce graphics and trailers for multiple games, including NieR: Automata, Dragon Quest XI, Code Vein, and Ace Combat 7.
Ichihara assumed the position of director for ILCA’s Kyoto development team and is tasked with developing a title at the Kyoto studio. He intends to make each staff member have their own specialties, such as player actions and battle motions, that when gathered together can form a large balanced power and project.
CGWorld’s interview also included a quote from Ichihara himself regarding his new position:
“It’s because I only live once. I want to create an organization that can realize proposals from staff members who have something they want to do. I personally joined this company in the middle of my career, but I have a strong desire to see this young organization grow with our own hands.”
Ichihara’s publicly known works from his tenure at Capcom were entirely related to the Monster Hunter series. He was first credited as a planner for the 2015 3DS game Monster Hunter Generations. After that, he worked as a director for the next two Monster Hunter games: Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, the last title directed by Ichihara while at Capcom, is immediately available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The development of the expansion ended with the Fatalis update. Capcom also recently held a new collaboration event with the Monster Hunter movie that featured the protagonist Artemis.
