Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Producer Talks Voice Chat, Western Fans

While Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate won’t have online multiplayer on the Nintendo 3DS, it will on the Wii U. At the Tokyo Game Show, series producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto, shed some light on what features are being planned for that version of the game, according to a Eurogamer report.

“In terms of new features, we have text chat in the game,” Tsujimoto shared. “Right now we’re looking into voice chat and seeing how we can get that to work, but it hasn’t been 100 per cent confirmed.”

With regard to meeting up with friends, Tsujimoto revealed that there is a friends list in the game that you can add your friends to. You can also use a search function to team up with other players that you don’t know personally.

Additionally, Tsujimoto stressed that Capcom do not intend to make major changes to the Monster Hunter games to increase their western appeal, instead opting for smaller tweaks like 3 Ultimate’s Target Camera feature, which makes the re-centre button focus on the closest, largest monster.

“We know there are a lot of people overseas who have made their own Monster Hunter communities,” Tsujimoto stated. “We know there are a lot of people who are huge fans of the series overseas. We want to make products to continue to build that fan base. We know it’s a fantastic game and an interesting game for overseas users. So we think if we continue working on the game, it’ll eventually start to break out.”

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will be released for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U in March 2013 in North America and Europe.
