Bandai Namco hosted a livestream for new info on the Gundam series games yesterday, with first gameplay shown off for Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. Maxiboost ON. The game was originally set to get gameplay shown off at Taipei Game Show 2020, until the entire event was postponed thanks to the ongoing Wuhan coronavirus health crisis.

The first big announcement of the livestream was that Zaku Amazing, piloted by Tatsuya Yuuki (CV: Takuya Sato) from Gundam Build Fighters, would be joining Maxiboost ON as a brand-new unit.

Zaku Amazing is just one of three new units that will be playable in the console version, which weren’t originally in the arcade version. The other two mobile suits will be revealed at later dates.

Next, co-op splitscreen gameplay for the title was shown off, a feature that was dropped in the PS4-exclusive game Gundam Versus, and has been heavily requested since. Of course, players can fight in one-on-one battles in Free Battle as well. However, splitscreen gameplay will not be available for online play.

In previous Extreme VS. games, splitscreen would cut the game’s framerate from 60 FPS to 30 FPS, but Bandai Namco confirmed in the livestream that the game will run in 60 FPS this time even during splitscreen. Apart from splitscreen, Maxiboost ON also includes LAN Party support as well.

Finally, livestream guest Takuya Sato (voice of Tetsuya Yuuki) showed off two stages of arcade mode using Zaku Amazing.

You can watch all the gameplay in the embedded video above (beginning at the 9:38 mark). Additionally, a new opening video for Gundam Build Fighters units in Arcade mode was shown off below:

Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. Maxiboost ON releases for PlayStation 4 worldwide in 2020. In case you missed it, Bandai Namco also announced that a new Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. game is in development for arcades.
