The interview covers all aspects of how the Genshin Impact team set about to design and create Yun Jin. You can watch “The World of Opera: A Behind the Scenes Look at the Creation of Yun Jin” here:

When it came to building the world and culture of Liyue, the creative team conceived the idea that Chinese opera culture would be the preferred pastime. Thus rose the need to design an opera singer. According to the character designer, they used real opera costumes as inspiration, and tried to mix traditional elements with everyday fashion.

A challenge that rose up during the creation of Yun Jin was her voice actress. It was difficult to find voice actresses with opera experience, and opera singers generally do not dub for video games. So, Yun Jin has two actresses voicing her at the same time, which is a first for Genshin Impact. Yang Yang, the voice actress for Yun Jin’s opera lines, comments on the novelty of mixing Chinese opera with video games.

Genshin Impact is available worldwide on PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. Yun Jin debuted in Genshin Impact during Version 2.4, which launched on January 5, 2022.
