Recently, Nintendo revealed just what sort of role the various Metroid amiibos will play in the upcoming 3DS-exclusive Metroid: Samus Returns. The amiibo figures that will be compatible with the game will include the Super Smash Bros. figures as well as the new ones made specifically for Samus Returns.
However, some are not pleased with the amount of content that is being locked behind using the new amiibo styled after the Metroid creatures. Scanning this new amiibo gives players access to Fusion mode which features a higher difficulty level, as well as the ability to use Samus’s Fusion Suit from Metroid Fusion.
Eurogamer approached Nintendo, asking if this would be amiibo-exclusive content, to which Nintendo replied that “this unlockable content is only unlocked using amiibo.” So it seems, at least for the foreseeable future, that Fusion mode in Samus Returns will be restricted to only those who possess the Metroid amiibo.
Metroid: Samus Returns will release for the Nintendo 3DS on September 15th, 2017.
