Capcom’s Rockman Unity blog revealed a couple of new projects to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of Mega Man. It unveiled two new manga series—Rockman-chan and Rockman-san—and a musical arrangement album; all three will be released in Spring 2021.
Rockman-chan will depict a gag story where a young and pure Mega Man nonchalantly follows through with Dr. Light’s impossible requests to pulverize enemies. Meanwhile, Rockman-san will tell a melancholic tale where a grown-up Mega Man lives in and deals with the absurdity of adult society.
Both of the aforementioned stories will be published on Young Ace UP starting in Spring 2021. The latter is an official website where you can immediately read manga in Japanese for free. The site’s lineup also currently includes Higurashi: When They Cry Gou and Everyday: Today’s Menu for the Emiya Family.
Capcom also revealed the Captune ONE album, which will be available in Japan in Spring 2021. It will feature arrangements of BGMs from various Mega Man titles made by Captune, a band formed by members of the Capcom Sound Team that debuted in the Rockman Live 2020 concert held last January. The arranged songs featured in the album will include “Running Through The Cyber World” from Mega Man: Battle Network, “Esperanto” from Mega Man Zero 4, and “Dr. Wily Stage 1” from Mega Man 2.
The first Mega Man game was released for the NES in Japan on December 17, 1987. The latest mainline console game to date is Mega Man 11, which launched simultaneously worldwide for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC on October 2, 2018.
