Masahiro Ito, an artist known for his work on the Silent Hill series, took to social media to confirm David Lynch movies ended up having an influence on Silent Hill 2. During the series of tweets he specifically referenced Lost Highway, as well as noted his affection for Mulholland Drive.
When discussing the potential influence of David Lynch movies on Silent Hill 2, Ito specifically mentioned during development that they considered multiple protagonists. He noted this was in reference to Lost Highway, but then said it was dismissed as “the story would have become too complicated.” He then also commented on possible responses from people who might criticize him speaking about the development process.

Masahiro Ito often takes to social media to discuss projects he worked on, including the Silent Hill series. For example in February 2024, he confirmed he designed monsters for Silent Hill: The Short Message. He also noted he didn’t contribute to the Return to Silent Hill movie. However, we will see his work again soon. The artist did return for the remake handled by Bloober Team and Konami.
