Mario vs Donkey Kong Reignites an Old Rivalry on Switch

A rerelease of a classic Mario game featuring Donkey Kong was announced during today’s Nintendo Direct. Mario vs Donkey Kong will be back on the Switch. The game is a puzzle platformer with local co-op functionality and is expected to launch on February 16, 2024 for Nintendo Switch.

The trailer sets up the story as Donkey Kong steals mini-Mario figurines from a factory, and now Mario has to stop him. The gameplay is set to be focused around puzzles as well as platforming, with buttons, keys and other contraptions populating the levels. The trailer shows an example where Mario moves a clockwork monkey-type enemy to a lower platform so he can use its tail to move across a gap and retrieve a key. There will also be local co-op functionality, with a second player taking on the role of Toad.

Other games announced at the Nintendo Direct include a Spy X Family game and a remake of Super Mario RPG.

Mario vs Donkey Kong is set to release on February 16 , 2024 for Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders are set to open later today. It originally appeared on the GBA.
