On October 25, 2020, Target tweeted that it would soon offer its customers an exclusive Animal Crossing: New Horizons journal free with purchase of the Nintendo Switch game. The tweet states that the journal will accompany purchases of the game made in stores on November 1, 2020. The tweet does not mention whether or not the promotion extends online, or to other days, but the language implies that it will be a fairly limited event.
While limited edition items are far from a calming proposal ahead of the 2020 holidays, the idea of pairing a journal with Animal Crossing: New Horizons conjures a certain amount of tranquility. Perhaps that is why Target did the same thing earlier in the year when it offered an exclusive journal as a pre-order incentive for the game. That journal was green and had a cover that featured Tom, Timmy, and Tommy Nook in the lower right corner set against a trademark grass design. The new one, however, is suitably Autumn-themed; its cover is yellow, its elastic band is brown, and Tom Nook is depicted wearing comfortable-looking fall fashion against a background of leaves.
The tweet also didn’t mention whether or not the yellow journal would contain a 2020 calendar and planner like the green one did, but 2020 didn’t exactly pan out to be a year for planning or tracking the passage of time, so it’s probably fine if this version simply contains more pages for writing. Or, in the case of some writers, if it simply contains more pages for potential writing. If they can somehow manage to come up with a thought they feel is worthy of putting down on limited edition paper, that is.
For fans of the game and looking to get in the spirit of the season, physical Animal Crossing goodies were recently added to Nintendo’s online rewards program in North America. Like the new journal, these items seem to be predominantly Autumn-themed. Additionally, the limited-edition Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch that came out earlier this year is back on store shelves.
Physical and digital versions of Animal Crossing: New Horizon are now available worldwide for the Nintendo Switch.
