The new Like a Dragon Gaiden story trailer features a lot of new information. Kiryu has to take on a job to prevent harm coming to the kids in his orphanage. He must venture into the underground of Sotenbori after a failed smuggling operation and get wrapped up in more Tojo Clan and Omi Alliance conflict. The trailer also showed brief glimpses of other high-profile characters from the series, including Ichiban, Majima and Saejima, although their roles in the story are unclear. There is also a brief mention of Hawaii, suggesting the story will tie in with 2024’s Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

A lot of new gameplay elements for Like a Dragon Gaiden were shown off in the overview trailer. This included new gadgets for Kiryu’s previously announced Agent Style of combat, such as rocket boots. The series’ trademark side activities were also detailed. There will be a Battle Arena mode, which can include team battles with large customizable squads. There will also be the usual Cabaret Club interactions, only now the hostesses appear in live-action video. Other side activities include karaoke, darts, pool, and a golf driving range. Classic arcade games will also feature, with Flicky, Fantasy Zone, Alex Kidd, and Sonic the Fighters all making appearances.

Like a Dragon Gaiden will come bundled with a Special Trial Version demo for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. This will also feature unique scenes if you beat Like a Dragon Gaiden first. In addition, Studio Director Masayoshi Yokoyama confirmed that Like a Dragon Gaiden will be available to play at the 2023 Gamescom, PAX West and Tokyo Game Show events. It will also be appearing at other shows in other locations ahead of its release.
