Up until this point, the game has not seen any sort of port since its original release on the Famicom. It is known to be frustratingly difficult, to the point where you are lucky if you manage to survive the first random encounter. Other problems include the game’s slow-paced movement on the overworld and an obtuse way of obtaining key cards to progress. That said, the game is a cult classic among fans due to its story and characters, especially as leveling up is represented by the party member’s sprites visibly growing older. Two fan remakes have since been released to try and address the gameplay issues.

Thankfully, the Nintendo Switch port adds in modern conveniences like saving and loading, a rewind feature, and the ability to double walking speed. The port also includes a digital copy of the manual and a New Game Plus mode. You can also check out which endings you have unlocked via the Ending Records.

Hoshi wo Miru Hito will be re-released digitally on the Nintendo Switch on July 30, 2020 in Japan. (It will also appear in western storefronts, although the game only supports Japanese text.) The game will cost $9.99. Check out the trailer for the game here.
