Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light Isn’t The Next “Tomb Raider”

Crystal Dynamics recently unveiled screenshots of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, following its reveal at the Game Developers Conference. Given that GoL is an isometric game that focuses on co-op puzzle-solving rather than third-person adventuring, naturally, a few fans over at Crystal Dynamics’s Facebook page wasted no time before voicing their concerns.

Soon enough, a Crystal Dynamics representative appeared to douse the flames, pointing out that the reason Guardian of Light doesn’t have “Tomb Raider” in the title is because it isn’t a Tomb Raider game.

Hi Harrison, you know this isn’t Tomb Raider right? We [are] working on two games, but this is something fresh and different! Wait and see : )

In reply to another poster that voiced concerns about the project affecting development of a potential Tomb Raider 9, a separate Crystal Dynamics employee replied:

Don’t worry! They are separate and LCGoL doesn’t effect the ‘other project’ ; )

Also – wait and see how cool LCGoL is. Lots of journalists will be seeing it at the Game Developer Conference in SF today and tomorrow, and we’ll get a trailer out soon too.

Considering leaked documents from Crystal Dynamics last year depicted a survival-horror take on Tomb Raider, it’s safe to say they didn’t pertain to this game. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is scheduled for release sometime this summer on Xbox Live, Playstation Network and PC. Here’s the first batch of official screens:
