Kowloon Youma Gakuenki: Origin of Adventure’s Opening Pays Homage to Cowboy Bebop

Kowloon Youma Gakuenki: Origin of Adventure

Arc System Works has released a look at the opening movie for Kowloon Youma Gakuenki: Origin of Adventure, the Atlus-developed visual novel and dungeon crawler hybrid that’s getting rereleased on Nintendo Switch on June 4. The original game released on PlayStation 2 back in 2004. If you remember Cowboy Bebop, it might get you feeling nostalgic.

The original opening movie of Kowloon Youma Gakuenki heavily referenced the opening of Cowboy Bebop. The opening movie for this remaster is essentially a remake of it, using the assets originally used for the original opening to recreate the opening in 16:9 ratio rather than 4:3. The remade opening movie was supervised by series director Shuhou Imai and the bullets were remade in 3D.

Apart from the opening movie, Origin of Adventure is a full HD remaster that refines the graphics and adjusts the aspect ratio to 16:9. Most of the voice cast from the original game have been brought back to fully voice the entire main story, including the Christmas confession scenes. Meanwhile, the Emotion Input and AP Turn Battle systems remain the same as the ones in the original game, letting players experience old and new elements of the game at the same time. That said, it must be mentioned that it is based on the original version of the game, not the Re:Charge updated version that was also released on the PlayStation 2.

Kowloon Youma Gakuenki: Origin of Adventure will be released on the Nintendo Switch on June 4, 2020. You can find an introduction to the characters in our previous post here.
