Konami have seen a fair degree of success with their social games in Japan, so it’s no surprise that they’re continuing to invest heavily in this area.
In December, Konami announced that Sengoku Collection — a game set in Japan’s Warring States period, where you collect and upgrade General Cards — had surpassed 2.5 million users, and was being turned into an anime series.
Another card game, Dragon Collection — where you collect legendary dragon cards and battle other players — had surpassed 5 million users as of December 2011. Prior to that, in August 2011, Konami announced that the game was being turned into a manga series to be published by Kodansha.
Today, Konami have announced that they will launch Star Wars Collection in February. The social game will be based on the six Star Wars films by George Lucas, and will have players collecting characters and vehicles from the series, and undertaking missions in the Star Wars universe. Periodically, special events based on the original films’ stories will be conducted as well.
Star Wars Collection will launch on GREE for mobile phones in February, and on iOS devices in March.
