My favorite thing about art books is commentary from the creators. How else would you know the bust size of the Luminous Arc witches? The Tome of Lost Souls book shares equally insightful information like how the Knights are designed.

Satoko Kiyuduki explains all of the Knights and the entire world of Knights in the Nightmare stem form the design of the Duelist, the class pictured above. The Duelist is a female knight that uses a piercing attack in the game. The Tome of the Lost Souls has some awfully candid contents like this bit about the Priestess class, “I’d wanted to make the Priestess’s chest a little larger than the Hermit’s [class], but I just couldn’t bring myself to tamper with Ms. Kiyuduki’s wonderful design… *laugh*”, says Illustrator Yoshinori Iwanga.

Another neat tidbit is the various Knight orders are initially based off classes in a high school. (!) Not English, math or science classes — they’re more like different homerooms. Shinichi Ito, Game Designer, explains one order with, “This is like a class full of students who are currently studying abroad or working while attending school. Imagine an American school.” I wonder what American high school Ito had in mind…
