We’ve seen that Kirby will be getting new abilities and hats similar to his other games in Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn, and Nintendo has released more info this week on what’s new, including these new abilities, Devilish Mode, and amiibo functionality for the game.

Ravel Abilities

With help from Prince Fluff and some enemies, Kirby can gain new abilities from new items that give Kirby a new hat to wear as well. Each ability has its own actions:

  • Knitting Needles: Knit large balls of yarn to attack.
  • Wire: Makes a sharp sword out of wire. You can even do a spin attack!
  • Button: Throw out button bombs to destroy enemies and obstacles.
  • Nylon: Create a wind that gives you a floaty jump. The wind will suck in nearby beads as well.
  • Bobbin: A bobbin yo-yo stretches out from on top of Kirby’s head to attack enemies.
  • Pincushion: Throw pins out in many directions!

Devilish Mode

In Devilish mode, these three devils will come into each stage and cause havoc in various ways that make it harder for Kirby. For example, in some stages, they will attack and make Kirby lose health. It’s a harder mode for players familiar with the stages, and Devilish Mode can be played an every stage in the game.

Minigames

Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn has two different minigames featuring King Dedede and Meta Knight respectively, in place of multiplayer. In Dedede’s minigame, you rush through a stage collecting beads while jumping and attacking whenever appropriate. In Meta Knight Slash, you fend off the approaching enemies with his swift sword strikes while collecting beads for score.

amiibo

The Kirby series amiibo can be used to give Kirby Ravel abilities that each feature a special hat. You can use them to get a Ravel ability anytime. There is no limit to how many times this feature can be used, and the Smash Bros. line versions of Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight can be used too.

Kirby’s Pad

Kirby’s Pad was a feature in Kirby’s Epic Yarn where Kirby could decorate a flat with furniture. This feature has been powered up to include even more furniture, including some that are obtained via beating the minigames and Devilish Mode. Furthermore, you can share your own Kirby’s Pad via Streetpass.

Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn releases on March 8, 2019 for Nintendo 3DS.
