Kirby Fighters Deluxe seems like it will be getting a sequel. At least, that’s what the official Play Nintendo site suggests. Under the “For Parents” section, people who go to the Game Finder and choose “Nintendo Switch Systems” will see Kirby Fighters 2 below Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. Nintendo has not issued any statement about it and, as of 11:15pm CT on September 22, 2020, the description remains live on the site. [Thanks, Wario64!]
There’s no release date for this potential sequel. However, it does have a $19.99 price tag, is billed as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and reveals characters like Kirby, Bandana Waddle Dee, and King Dedede will be playable. The icon features different color Kirbys using the Beam, Staff, Sword, Wrestler, and Yo-yo Copy Abilities. (The Wrestler one is new.) Other characters featured in the icon are Meta Knight and Magolor.
Just in case Nintendo removes the description, here’s a copy of it from the page.
If you click the actual product description for Kirby Fighters 2, it takes people to a page that doesn’t exist yet.
Kirby Fighters began its life as one of the Kirby Triple Deluxe extra modes. Kirby Fighters Deluxe and Dedede’s Drum Dash Deluxe were both released as eShop downloads, with each one having extra features in the standalone release. In the case of Kirby Fighters Deluxe, that meant you had more arenas and the option to play on teams with other people.
Kirby Fighters Deluxe is immediately available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with Kirby Fighters 2.
