Killer Instinct Revival Idea Came From Microsoft, Says Double Helix

Front Mission Evolved developer Double Helix are working on a new Killer Instinct game for the Xbox One. When we recently spoke with the studio, we had a chance to ask how the brand came back after all these years.

“It took a while for the opportunity to arrive,” David Verfaillie, Design Director at Double Helix, shared with me.

“A lot of things had to come together, to be at the right place and time. But finally we got the tech we needed, the team we needed. And once everything lined up, we put together an awesome prototype. That basically won us the business, and we’ve been working on it ever since.”

Interestingly, the idea to bring Killer Instinct back came from Microsoft.

“The idea to bring it back came originally from Microsoft,” Verfaillie revealed. “They had new hardware coming soon and were like, ‘the time is now, we gotta bring this back’. So we heard about the chance and jumped at it.”
