Kazutaka Kodaka Thinks There Could Eventually Be a New Danganronpa Game

Kazutaka Kodaka with Danganronpa Monokuma

The latest issue of Famitsu includes special coverage celebrating the 10th anniversary of Spike Chunsoft’s Danganronpa series. It also has a new interview with Kazutaka Kodaka, the original creator of Danganronpa who left Spike Chunsoft to found Too Kyo Games, in 2018. In it, he explained that he believes we could see a new Danganronpa game and he isn’t opposed to being involved. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]

In the anniversary interview, Kodaka said he does not consider Danganronpa to be a finished series. He believes that a new sequel will eventually come out, and he might even join the development for that game.

Here are some highlights from the
Famitsu
interview with Kodaka:

  • “I bragged that Danganronpa V3 was my best masterpiece because I intended to end it neatly. It will be difficult to create a new game that exceeds it.”
  • “The voices that desire a sequel have gotten stronger. As long as the environment between myself and Spike Chunsoft has been set up, the probability is not zero.”
  • “I feel like I may be able to make one new game in my future as a creator.”
  • “I cannot thoughtlessly say which creator I’d like to leave the project to.”
  • [Kotaro] Uchikoshi may also be a good candidate, but I cannot bring myself to have negative opinions, so it may be better for me to create it myself.” (strained laugh)
  • “We will soon be able to reveal the thing that I have been working on with Spike Chunsoft.”

The Danganronpa series is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, as its first entry was released on the PlayStation Portable in Japan on November 25, 2010. The latest installment in the series is Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, which launched worldwide in 2017 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC.
