Today marks the release of Mario Kart 7 in the U.S., which means that the game is now available in Japan, America and Europe. As promised, we’ve set up a Mario Kart 7 Siliconera community using the game’s “Community” feature, so our readers can play together. You can join a community from anywhere in the world.

You want to go into the game’s online multiplayer menu, into communities, and to search by code. Once you enter the community code, it will be permanently registered in your game and you’ll be able to play with other community members. A couple of tips to keep in mind:
1. Speed boosts work like they did in Mario Kart Wii in that you gain speed from drifting. If you aren’t gaining any speed, try increasing the sharpness of your drift. Blue sparks indicate that you’ll get a boost of speed when you let go of the drift button. If you increase your drift angle even further while the blue sparks are flying, they’ll turn red, which indicates a greater speed boost.
2. Small bumps in the road give lots of little opportunities for speed boosts, too. Tapping the drift button makes your kart do a short hop. If you hop over a speed bump with the right timing, you’ll catch a burst of speed. This also applies to longer jumps, such as when you go off a ramp.
Races run at 150CC and have all items (that includes Blue Shells) turned on. Hope to see you all in races at some point!
