Released worldwide in August 2022, Perfect World’s open-world RPG Tower of Fantasy has become known for its similarities to HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact. There are quite a few things in common. For example, both offer free exploration. They’re also action-RPGs. Also, as it is also a free-to-play game, Tower of Fantasy relies on a gacha system for income and new characters.

Does Tower of Fantasy have gacha mechanics?

Yes, Tower of Fantasy does have a gacha system called Special Orders. While the game is free-to-play, you use Nuclei to pull weapons and Simulacra from four different banners.

Weapons are sorted into three tiers. There are R, SR, and SSR ones, with SSR being the rarest. Think 5-star characters in Genshin Impact.

Each Special Order banner requires a specific currency to pull from, which is as follows:

  • Choice Weapons – Gold Nucleus Cache: Gold Nuclei.
  • Choice Weapons – Black Nucleus Cache: Black Nuclei.
  • Limited Time #1: Red Nuclei.
  • Limited Time #2: Red Nuclei.

The Choice Weapons banners are your typical standard banners that contain a set pool of weapons and Simulacra you can pull from. As you play, you can find and earn both Gold and Black Nuclei that you can spend on Choice Weapons.

Then there are two Limited Time banners, which offer the chance to pull certain SSRs on a rotating basis. These used Red Nuclei, which must be purchased using 150 Dark Crystal per piece. You can earn Dark Crystal through regular gameplay, but it is slow. Alternatively, you can purchase Dark Crystal using real money.

The rate at which you pull an SSR increases if you do a 10-pull rather than a singular. You’re guaranteed at least an SR with every 10-pull, with the SSR rate being a 0.75% base chance.

Tower of Fantasy is free-to-play now on iOS, Android, and PC. It is releasing on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on August 8, 2023.
