Capcom’s dinosaur shooter, Exoprimal, features five-player multiplayer across both PvE and PvP modes. But if you want to join up with others on different platforms, there’s a huge catch for cross-platform play.

Can I play Exoprimal cross-platform?

Yes you can, but only with random teammates. When you join Dino Survival or another game mode with matchmaking enabled, Exoprimal will place you in a cross-platform match with four other players who could be on the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One. But it’s when you want to play with friends on another platform than you that it gets tricky.

There is no Exoprimal cross-platform play for parties on different ecosystems. This means that if, for example, you’re on Xbox One and the person you want to team up with is playing on the PlayStation 5, you won’t be able to join or invite them to a group. You’ll need to both be playing on the same platform to party up.

It gets even weirder with PC, because if you own the Steam version, you can only play with other Steam players. So if your friend is playing the Game Pass version on PC, it’s tough luck.

Players can make a party with others on these same platforms:

  • Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC.
  • PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5.
  • Steam

As for whether this will ever change, on July 7, 2023, the Exoprimal team posted, “We are investigating ways to allow you to play together with your friends on other platforms, but this may take some time.” So it appears it will, but as for when is anyone’s guess.

Exoprimal is available now on the PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
