At a financial results briefing for investors, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed what his company hopes will be their next successful Mii-focused product for the expanded audience — Wii Party.

“According to our own survey, we know that more than 160 million Miis have been created by our customers in Japan, the U.S. and six countries in Europe alone,” Iwata explained to investors, while displaying a slide of Wii Party. He went to explain that the popularity of Tomodachi Collection was largely responsible for consumers in Japan taking to their Miis. “In a sense, it is a natural move for your Miis and your friends’ and family members’ Miis to show up in a Wii party game,” he concluded.

However, Miis aren’t the only contributing factor to the game’s development. Of more significance, perhaps, is the success of Mario Party 8, which went on to sell 7.6 million units, post its 2007 release. Nintendo believe a party game has great potential and are preparing Wii Party for a 2010 release.
