If you don’t have an iron pickaxe yet, you’re going to have to speak with Cinder the blacksmith and have her help you upgrade your tools. How can I use my iron pickaxe’s magical ability?

When you’re in the field in front of rocks on your farm or inside a dungeon like Saltwater Mines or Floating Ruins, find a spot with an abundance of rocks or ore you’d like to mine. To use the iron pickaxe’s magical ability, stand close to an area you’d like to mine, then press the Y button on your Nintendo Switch. On a PC, you would press the F key. A 3×3 grid showing you the magic ability’s range will become visible and you’ll hit those rocks to break them. Depending on their strength, you may break them all in one blow.

Remember to keep track of the depleting blue bar on the top left of the screen. That’s your mana, and it’ll get slowly used up the more and more you use your iron pickaxe’s magical ability. You can use a potion to replenish your mana if you run out. You can purchase them from Vera in the East Town or eventually craft your own.

Fae Farm is available on the Nintendo Switch and PC.
