Where to find Magick Archer location in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Before we dive into this, it should be stated that Magick Archer in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is locked behind a quest that is pretty far into the game. So, if you are looking at learning the Vocation from the start, you are going to have to progress the story quite a bit before you can reach it. Specifically, the Vocation can’t be unlocked until you pass through the desert region of Battahl and head south to where the game’s story originally started.

Magick Archer is unlocked in Dragon’s Dogma 2 by completing the “Put a Spring in Thy Step” quest near Drabnirs Grotto southeast of Battahl. Once you pass through Drabnirs Grotto, you will meet an injured dwarf named Gautstafr as you enter the new region. Give him three health plant items, such as “Greenwarish.” This will trigger the “Put a Spring in Thy Step” quest. He will then ask you to come back to his house for a “reward.” Unfortunately, his back will give out again, and his wife, “Cliodhna,” will ask you to “escort him” to the nearby hot springs.

For your convenience, we have provided a map that shows the exact location of Magick Archer in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

How to Learn Magick Archer Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To unlock Magick Archer in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to escort Gautstafr to the Geyser Hamlet Hot Springs in the Volcanic Island Camp. Sounds easy, right? Unfortunately, completing this quest has a few hurdles you need to clear before you can unlock the powerful new Archer class for your Arisen.

Below are the steps to unlock Magick Archer in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Pass through the west exit of Battahl and head south through the Drabnirs Grotto cave.
  • On the other side of Drabnirs Grotto, speak to Gautstafr, who is injured. Give him three health items.
  • Visit Gautstafr’s house and progress the “Put a Spring in Thy Step” quest by speaking to his wife after his back gets injured further.
  • Escort Gautstafr’s to the Geyser Hamlet Hot Springs in the Volcanic Island Camp.
  • Drop him off at the Volcanic Island Camp Hot Springs, where he will go soak.
  • Gautstafr’s wife, Cliodhna, will then thank you and teach you the Magick Archer vocation as a reward.

As soon as you exit the other side of Drabnirs Grotto south of Battahl, you will meet the injured Gautstafr. The NPC will ask you for “wildflowers,” which are basically plant-based health items. You should easily have Greenwarish and other similar items at this point in the game. However, if you don’t have them, go round around the area and look for the healing plants. Return and give Gautstafr the three health items he requested for his back.

Gautstafr will then ask you to follow him to his home so he can give you a reward for helping him. Take the winding path through the water, until you reach his house. Enter the home after the door is closed behind him and then talk to Gautstafr who is now on the ground with an injured back. His wife Cliodhna, will now ask you to escort her him to the Geyser Hamlet Hot Springs in the Volcanic Island Camp.

The best way to complete the “Put a Spring in Thy Step” quest is to pick Gautstafr up and carry him to the marked location on your map. As you make your way to the Hot Springs, you will get jumped by enemies. During these segments, put Gautstafr down and take down each creature.

Eventually, you will make your way to the Volcanic Island Camp. Continue to carry Gautstafr through the area and make your way to the top of the village using the wooden planks. The Geyser Hamlet Hot Springs can be found at the very top of the Island Camp and can be reached by climbing a ladder. Once you reach the hot springs, Gautstafr will thank you and automatically run off to go soak his back.

A cutscene will now trigger, and Gautstafr’s wife, Cliodhna, will appear and thank you for helping her husband. As a reward for completing the “Spring in Thy Step” quest, Cliodhna will teach you the Magick Archer vocation. The NPC will give you a Magick Bow and outfit to match the new job. Next, head to the nearest Vocation Guild and unlock Magick Archer.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Magick Archer Skills

Magick Archer is a pretty strong Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2, as it gives you access to powerful magic-infused ranged attacks. The main gimmick of the class is its homing arrows, which track enemies. Simply hold “R1” (PlayStation) or “RB” (Xbox) to aim, and any enemy that steps into your reticle will have a circle tagged on it.

It gets even better, as this auto-aiming also applies to an enemy’s weak spots. While fighting an ogre, for example, you can have arrows locked onto its knees, legs, arms, and head at the same time. While weak at short range, the Magick Archer Vocation shines with its powerful elemental spells and healing abilities.

Here are some key skills Magick Archer has in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Frosthunter Bolt:
    • Sends a group of clustered ice-fused bolts at enemies, with a chance of freezing them with enough application.
  • Candescent Orb:
    • Shoot out a bright orb to light up the area. Enemies that get close can become set on fire.
  • Ricochet Seeker:
    • Unleash a barrage of arrows that bounce off objects. Each bolt does more damage if they are bounced off walls or ceilings. Perfect for caves, or close-quarter areas.
  • Sedative Bolt:
    • A charged bolt that, when it hits an enemy, has a chance to put them to sleep.
  • Flamefang Arrow:
    • Send out a fireball that explodes on impact. The bolt can be controlled in a first-person perspective and manually aimed at an enemy.
  • Hailstone Bolt:
    • Charge up to create a giant ice block. When the ice block is shot out and hits a foe, it creates powerful knockdown power.
  • Remedy Arrow:
    • When held down for a full charge, the arrow can be shot at an ally to revive them. If let go early, the arrow can heal them.
  • Vimtaking Arrow:
    • When the bolt hits an enemy, it saps their HP and heals nearby allies.
  • Martyr’s Bolt (a skill given by Cliodhna):
    • Unleash a devastating flurry of homing arrows at the cost of your health. The more health damage you take, the more powerful the attack is.
