The second Trial in The Sorrow of Werlyt side questline in Final Fantasy XIV, this encounter will see you face off against the Emerald Weapon. However, you will not be able to immediately access this encounter. Instead, you will need to complete an additional quest to unlock this fight. This guide will break down everything you need to know to unlock Castrum Marinum in FFXIV.

How to Unlock the Castrum Marinum in FFXIV: Shadowbringers

After completing the Cinder Drift, “The Sorrow of Werlyt” side questline will continue. However, before you can tackle the Emerald Weapon, you will first need to pick up a different, but related, quest. Head to The Locks and speak to the Resistance Officer at X:11.2, Y:22.5 to accept “Sleep Now in Sapphire.” You’ll be visiting this location a lot for the remainder of “The Sorrows of Werylt” questline. After you’ve completed “Sleep Now in Sapphire,” go back to The Lochs and speak to the Resistance Officer at X:11.3, Y:22.5. Pick up the quest “Blood of Emerald” to unlock the Cinder Drift.

The requirements for unlocking the Castrum Marinum are as follows:

  • Complete “Sleep Now in Sapphire”
  • Complete the Cinder Drift
  • Level 80
  • Item Level 485

How to Unlock the Castrum Marinum (Extreme) in FFXIV: Shadowbringers

Once you have defeated the Emerald as part of “The Sorrow of Werlyt” side quests, you can unlock the Extreme version of this Trial. Speak to the Warmachina Fanatic at X:11.6, Y:22.6 and pick up the quest “Weapon of Choice.” Completing this will unlock Castrum Marinum (Extreme).

  • Complete “Weapon of Choice”
  • Level 80
  • Item level 500
