Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince is out now, but it also has a free demo to check out on Nintendo Switch. While you are restricted in what you can bring over, it is worth carrying over some of the monsters to the full game.

How to carry over Dragon Quest Monsters the Dark Prince demo progress

To be clear, Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince doesn’t let you bring the story progress from the demo over. This is because the demo takes place past the prologue introduction. That said, you can carry over the monsters you collect in the demo into the full release.

You can do this by downloading the free demo and playing through it. Capture all the monsters you want to use in the full game, then save your progress in the main menu. From there, you can then download and boot up the full release. On the game’s home screen, select the “transfer demo data” option. This will then start a fresh new save with all your monsters carrying over.

How to unlock the Monster Depot

Unfortunately, what you will find is you don’t have access to your demo monsters at the start of The Dark Prince. Instead, you’ll have to play through the game a bit to access them. Go through the prologue cutscenes, do the opening tutorial battles, and progress through the initial area.

You’ll want to complete the tutorial that introduces all four seasons and the like. Once you do this, you’ll be told to return to the town of Rosehill. Go back there and speak with Monty. You’ll then unlock a teleport in town, which takes you to the Monster Depot. Here, you will find all of your pals from the demo waiting to rejoin your party. You can even use the demo transfer method to get an extra starter, which isn’t usually possible at the start of the game.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
